Final Label

The label is meant to go around a cylinder shaped packed, due to it being a canned product. The logo is  the first indicator that it is in fact a rolled up pizza, but I've also presented it in the side notes and the directions, so there's no misconceptions. The design is supposed to resemble the way a classic pizza box would look, from the color scheme to the checkerboard pattern that wraps around it... it's meant to strike a familiar feeling of ordering a pizza, except that it's in a can.

It follows the rule of thirds by the arrangement of the package details, starting with the word "pepperoni", circling to the red fresh badge, then going to the logo, though the Pizza Pipe logo is never distracted from. The design goes in a spiral sort of arrangement, though it's mostly balanced out. The nutrition facts, the directions, and the mission statement are meant to be clean and orderly, while maintaining a feeling of fun and tradition.

The text is meant to align and conform with the label in a slightly decorative, but organized way. The logo's bright colors both contrasts and conforms with the rest of the package because it contains elements of red and green, but has a golden yellow color to make it stand out the most (along with size).  Flow can be seen mostly from the word "pepperoni", as well as the rule of thirds described above.

Overall, with how it's set up, and the familiar kind of theme on the label, there's no mistaking that this is a food product. It's mostly meant to be warm and familiar, despite being a fairly inexpensive, fully prepared canned pizza. There are both modern and classic elements that work together to appeal to a wider audience, and keep that familiarity while remaining fun and modern (because this product would most likely be popular with college students or younger apartment owners, due to it's price and convenience).

Reptileface extra credit

Here's the extra credit of applying a reptile texture to a face using PS.

Final Label (probably)

Here's what is most likely to be my final label. I added the direction graphics, as well as a different font for the word "Pepperoni". I don't think there's much more I'd like to do with this.

Final Label WIP1

Here's the WIP of my final label. There's a few things missing, such as the direction graphics.

Pizza Pipe label thumbnails (round 2)

Here's the second set of the label thumbnails. The blank boxes will have little step by step graphics on how to prepare it. (Unroll, bake at so and so, and serve). I still need to draw those up. I'll probably add a background texture to my final product.

Here's round two for the logos. I'm going to use the first or last one.

Round 1: 10 thumbnails for logotype

Here's the ten thumbnails for the logotype for my product concept, Pipe Pizza. Keep in mind that these are all incredibly rough, and some of them use clipart. I plan on doing all final art by hand.

Illustrator practice

Here's the violation of my name in Illustrator. This doesn't represent me at all.

But I still like it.

2nd Round thumbnails

Here's the 2nd round of thumbnails, working off the variations of my strongest previous design. I'm definitely leaning towards the last one, due to it being close to my original design, but having a completely different feel.  Something lighthearted would be nice.

10 thumbnails

My first 10 thumbnails. I don't know if I want to do a modernist or a post-modernist piece, but I know I want it to be a piece of cake.

Stamp transformation

Alrighty, I did the stamp adjustment thing with an art deco stamp for Wisconsin. With absolutely no goal in mind, ended up changing the picture subtly into a stamp about aliens. I tried to keep the font and general appearance consistent with the original.

Face type exercise

Here's the face drop out/type exercise we did. I actually kinda liked how I did it, so I thought I would post it. : D

3 stamp analysis

Alrighty, let's start analyzing my three favorite stamps...

1) The anime girl stamp: This is a more horizontal stamp, with a green border along the bottom, as well as what appears to be film in the background. It's weighed nicely, because even though the character is more to the right of the design, it's balanced out by the transparent film design in the back, as well as the random typographic elements. The dotted border around the whole thing is rather thick, and the random color inclusions enrich the entire thing. It's quite energetic and lively.

2) The Atari Jungle Hunt Stamp (top right): This is a very dark stamp in general, but with a lot of brightly colored elements inside. It's meant to purely represent an illustration of what the actual game looks like, but it's actually quite intricate. The border around the game resembles a TV screen, and the dark pink letters in the black surrounding it are the exact same font as the font found on Atari cartridges. It's quite colorful and eye catching, though it only serves one purpose: to remind you of playing an Atari game in the dark of night.

3) The arrow stamp: I have no idea what this stamp is about, but I love it. It's definitely a modernistic design, and the highlighter color scheme on top of the neutral blue background makes both the arrows and the font stand out completely. There is nothing ambiguous about this design. It's fun, lively, and exciting. It flows nicely, and it's just plain fun to look at... were I to get a letter with this stamp on it, it would most certainly catch my attention.

Stamps I Like

Here's a collection of stamps that I found visually appealing or eye-catching... I've already covered the different movements in my last post, so here's what I collected when adhering to my own preferences... as you can see, I mostly stuck with anime girls, cartoons, comics, and a couple of art-deco type stamps thrown in.

Stamp Variety

Here's a variety of stamps I've collected on the internet for style differentiation. I found a few of art nouveau, art deco, modernism, constructivism, bauhaus, classical, and a couple of cartooning types. I also found one of an anime girl, because I'd like to make a stamp with that particular theme.

Typography final

The words placed in this design are meant to guide the viewer through a set of hallways, per say, after first encountering Emphasis. The "PHA" with it's larger size and contrasting color makes it look like the title. Repetition serves as the makeup of the hallways, leaving gutters for the other elements to adhere and interact in. Contrast exists within the lines of repetition, and serves as another distraction point for the viewer. With it's bold, futuristic text, and it's fading color represents Contrast completely. Balance is arched, and placed on the bottom to even out the picture. Emphasis may have the spotlight, but balance keeps it in check. Flow and Alignment exist merely to fall within the gutters of repetition... I chose a very stiff, sans-serif font for alignment, and a cursive one for flow. Flow is supposed to look like it's going through a path.

If anything, alignment is the star of this design. The word itself is minor, but the entire design is about conformity and adherence... or the illusion of.

Though they may seem scattered, the point of this design is for everything to work with the spaces that the blocks of repetition creates. Notice that the larger, more important elements are the ones that overlap  Repetition, whereas the others are conformed within it. This doesn't mean they aren't all important... in a way, I was attempting to make each word represent every listed element, as opposed to being completely stand-alone... it's all about how they, by themselves, indicate what they're saying; together, they can represent everything BEYOND just being on the page. For example, contrast and repetition can represent alignment based on their placement. Emphasis creates contrast. Flow is emphasized by being the only element that's both lined up and free.

I like designs with order and purpose... I really just wanted it to be different from the jumbled messes I had seen for examples. If I was making a poster, I would want some sort of organization.

Thumbnail variations (leading up to final!)

Here's 5 variations of my favorite previous thumbnail... I'm definitely leaning towards purple, though I wanted to experiment with red/black, and green/orange/black. Mostly, the element of "flow" was messed around with, since I'd like to keep most of the organization already in place.

Thumbnails: Typography project

Here's my five thumbnails putting all the words together. I'm a firm believer that you can always tell when the person was enthusiastic about making some designs... and less for others.

Golden Mean thumbnail HW

Here are the five thumbnails to demonstrate the Golden Mean. Yes, it's a bunch of nonsense, but it somehow illustrates the six design elements within a visually appealing plane.

Last three typography concepts

Here's the next three concepts. I did something a little different with alignment... it may not look like it, but there's only five examples.

First three typography concepts

Here's what I've got so far for Emphasis, Balance, and Contrast. I have three others to do, but I figured I'd upload these for now. I used Photoshop CS2 and Paint Tool SAI for this. Coffee Tin (the font), to me, can be used for both Emphasis and Contrast.

First post

Yep, gotta make a blog for my Intro to Computer Designs class. Here, I'll be posting WIPS, as well as the finished projects. I assume many of the posts will be of the creative process, but we'll have to see. >.>' For now, enjoy the lovely sight of my nearly blank page, soon to be filled with my (hopefully) awesometastizing design work. Because we don't mess around.
